The Class of 1963 and the 18 Young Men Who Changed Harvard Forever

Meet the 18: Travis Williams

Travis Williams
Born: Durham, NC, 1941
Prepared at: Hillside High School, Durham, NC
Died: May 23, 1968

Travis was quite volatile. He was quite passionate about things and he was capable of great anger . . . and he drank too much. It must have been complicated for him moving in an elite white world, where everybody's being polite, but obviously the reality of rural North Carolina was very much a part of his experience. (Lance Morrow -- Travis' roommate and friend.)

After graduation Travis worked for Life Magazine in New York City. He died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Lower Manhattan in 1968.
